Definition talk:Surface

I'd say length and breadth are intuitive concepts. Besides, how would you define them except maybe in terms of distance, which really doesn't fit for this definition. There has to be some things that aren't defined, we aren't a dictionary, after all. And the usual undefined primitive geometric objects are point, line, and plane (or in this case, surface), so if those three aren't defined in terms of other things, it's probably okay. --Cynic 16:48, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

I've actually added a page for "Linear measure" or whatever I called it. The idea being that the terms are basically defined somewhere (bear in mind that not all users are necessarily English speakers) and my plan was that we could use a place to define various units used in its measure (e.g. feet 'n' inches, meters, cubits and spans, etc.). It's all mathematics, and there may be some users out there who have a passion for historical stuff like that (I admit it can be quite interesting.) However, I don't know exactly what direction to take this in at the moment, I'm currently battling with getting Euclid's definitions down and structuring the resulting pages. All a bit fluid and experimental at the moment, I'm afraid - but it won't half give the site some kudos when it's all present and correct. --Matt Westwood 17:36, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
