Historical Note
The Abel-Ruffini Theorem, on the general insolubility of the quintic, was solved by Niels Henrik Abel in $1823$.
He published this result, together with a complete proof, in a pamphlet Mémoire sur les équations algébriques ou on démontre l'impossibilité de la résolution de l'équation générale du cinquième degré in $1824$.
He took this piece of work to Germany and France when he visited in search of recognition for his achievements.
He sent a copy to Carl Friedrich Gauss, who (for whatever reason) did not read it. It was found unopened in among Gauss's papers on his death.
