Definition

Every substance is composed of indivisible particles of that substance.

These particles are referred to as the elementary units of that substance.


Examples

Elementary units may be:

atoms (of a specified element)
molecules (of a specified substance)
ions (of a specified type)
electrons
photons

and so on.
