Let $\phi: F \to F$ be a (field) homomorphism from $F$ to itself.


Then $\phi$ is a field endomorphism.

The word endomorphism derives from the Greek morphe (μορφή) meaning form or structure, with the prefix endo- (from ἔνδον') meaning inner or internal.
