If we are requiring the thumb and index finger to be at right angles to each other, that forces $\mathbb a$ and $\mathbb b$ to be orthogonal as well. That severely limits the applicability of the rule. Is it not completely fine to let the thumb move on its plane with the index finger? --CircuitCraft (talk) 16:40, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
