Operational Calculus

Interesting. Googling tells me that Heaviside did not know about Laplace's transform. What his innovation was to treat the differential operator as a variable $p$, a definite integral as an inverse $p^{-1}$, and then doing algebra with differential equations treated as functions in $p$. It turns it his results are similar to, or perhaps identical to, Laplace transforms.
