Talk:Generating Function for Elementary Symmetric Function

Dec 2019: The original Theorem statement needed minor editing to comply with notation in reference Knuth (1997). The original proof was moved to Proof 3, then duplicated as EXPLANATION directly after the Theorem. The original proof had splendid intuition but no proof details, as implored by Knuth (1997) section 1.2.9. Proof 3 details are expected to use the definition of an elementary symmetric function for all values of index $m$. Two proofs were added, the first by Viete's formulas and the second by induction plus a recursion formula for elementary symmetric functions. My suggestion: delete Proof 3, but keep the EXPLANATION, because the ideas in proof 3 are important. --Gbgustafson (talk) 07:50, 2 December 2019 (EST)
