Definition

A lever is a simple machine consisting of:

a rigid bar $M$
pivoted at a point $F$, called the fulcrum

so that:

an effort applied at one point $E$ of $M$

is transferred to:

a load at another point $L$ of $M$

so as to generate a mechanical advantage.


Type 1

A type $1$ lever is a lever such that the fulcrum is positioned between the effort and the load:

A type $2$ lever is a lever such that the load is positioned between the effort and the fulcrum:
