Let $\mathbf A$ and $\mathbf B$ be matrices.

Let the order of $\mathbf A$ be $a_r \times a_c$.

Let the order of $\mathbf B$ be $b_r \times b_c$.

Then $\mathbf A$ and $\mathbf B$ are conformable if either:

$a_r = b_c$

or:

$b_r = a_c$

or both.

That is, if the number of rows of one is equal to the number of columns of the other.
