Historical Note on Data Encryption Standard
The Data Encryption Standard was adopted by authorities in the US in $1976$.
It was considered an appropriate standard for producing ciphertext, as it is very difficult to decipher.
It was superseded by the Advanced Encryption Standard in $2002$, as the latter is easier to implement and more secure.
