Definition

Let $S$ be a set of observations of continuous data.

Let the range of $S$ be grouped into a finite subdivision.


Each of the subintervals of the subdivision into which the grouped data is assigned is referred to as a bin.


Bin Width

The length of the subintervals of a set of grouped data that form the bins of that grouped data is known as the bin width.
