Definition

Let $G$ be a two-person game whose players are identified with the symbols $A$ and $B$.

It is the convention that the first of the players listed (in this case $A$) is distinguished from the other and referred to as the maximising player.

For readily apparent reasons, the maximising player is also referred to as the first player.
