Definition

Let $\mathbf v$ and $\mathbf w$ be vectors in space.

We say that $\mathbf v$ is in the opposite direction to $\mathbf w$ if and only if:

the lines of action of $\mathbf v$ and $\mathbf w$ are parallel

but at the same time:

the lines of action of $\mathbf v$ and $\mathbf w$ are not the same.
