Possibly. The source work I got it from didn't specify the domain, it was implicitly reals, but whether it still holds for the complex or rational domain etc. I haven' a clue. It was mentioned in passing during the development of the determinants work. Someone who knows their way around this needs to tackle it - the result that it leads to was described as "deep".

Bear in mind I haven't even defined the concept of a polynomial in more than one variable yet. That needs to be done, but my source works gloss over this. Mind, I've got some Bourbaki books coming for xmas which may help ... --prime mover (talk) 06:23, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
