Then:

$\dfrac a b + \dfrac c d = \dfrac {a D + B c} {\lcm \set {b, d} }$

where:

$B = \dfrac b {\gcd \set {b, d} }$
$D = \dfrac d {\gcd \set {b, d} }$
$\lcm$ denotes lowest common multiple
$\gcd$ denotes greatest common divisor.
