Definition
An information model is a mathematical model constructed to investigate a question in the field of information theory.
It is usual for it to consist of:
- $(1): \quad$ a source of information
- $(2): \quad$ an encoder to convert the information into a form suitable for transmission
- $(3): \quad$ a channel along which the information is transmitted
- $(4): \quad$ a decoder to convert the information back into a readable form
- $(5): \quad$ a destination, or user, which receives the information.
