Question about validity: According to Wikipedia, only $E$ has to be algebraically closed for this to be valid. If you know nything about this feel free to contribute. --prime mover 01:17, 17 May 2012 (EDT)

Well, the phrasing is a bit awkward, as treating intersection points in $E$ is in fact the same as starting with $E$ in place of $F$ in the first place (as one needs to extend the curves to $E$ to be able to talk about such stuff of course). The only way I know of getting curves over $F$ would be to restrict ones over $E$ (or any other algebraic closure of $F$), but this may be due to my confined perspective on the matter. --Lord_Farin 08:00, 17 May 2012 (EDT)
