Examples of Concomitant Variables
Insecticide
Consider an experiment to test the effect of various insecticides at reducing a pest on fruit trees.
An appropriate concomitant variable would be a measure of the level of infestation on each experimental unit immediately before applying the insecticides.
Hence the technique of analysis of covariance adjusts for the effects of differing initial infestation on the response to the insecticides.
