A capacitor is an electrical component whose purpose is to introduce capacitance into an electric circuit.
It consists of an implementation of two parallel conducting laminae placed a small distance apart:
Plate of Capacitor
The conducting laminae of a capacitor on which the electric charge is stored are called its plates.
When a potential difference $V$ is applied across the plates, a charge $Q$ appears on those plates whose value is determined by the capacitance $C$:
- $C = \dfrac Q V$
