Definition
The Euclidean tools are the tools specifically allowed when performing Euclidean constructions.
Straightedge
A straightedge is an ideal tool for constructing straight lines.
A straightedge is of unlimited length, but has no markings on it, so it cannot be used for measurement.
Compasses
A compass is an ideal tool for drawing circles.
Hence it can be used according to Euclid's third postulate to construct a circle using any two given points:
- $(1): \quad$ the center
and:
- $(2): \quad$ an arbitrary point on the circumference.
