Definition talk:Operation
I would rather the page Definition:Logical Connective not be merged into Definition:Operation.
There is a link from the former to the latter already.
Yes, so a logical connective is an operation / operator (call it what you will), but I think it is better to keep the Logic definitions separate from the Mathematics ones as much as possible.
Reason: because the definitions for logic are what the whole of the basis of ZF set theory is based on, via the Axiom of Replacement, mainly. We can't define an "operation" in the context of abstract algebra until we have deduced that those structures exist in the first place, and we need to ensure the soundness of our logic before we can do that. The concept of a logical connective is about the very first step in that process. --Matt Westwood 21:20, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Sounds right to me. Seeing as you seem to have been the one to propose the merge, feel free to delete the mergeto tag from the page. --Cynic (talk) 05:20, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Goodness so I did. Silly ole me.--Matt Westwood 05:26, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Suggestion
If anyone feels up to it, infinitary operations can be added. --Lord_Farin 04:23, 6 April 2012 (EDT)
- Well volunteered, that man. Would probably have a link to infinite series, which is at base an infinitary operation, I suppose. --prime mover 05:41, 6 April 2012 (EDT)
