By Differentiation

$x^2 = \underbrace{x+x+x+\ldots+x}_{\mbox{x times}}$
$2x=\underbrace{1+1+1+\ldots+1}_{\mbox{x times}}$, by differentiating w.r.t. $x$
$2x=x$
$2=1$
