Let $A$, $B$ and $P$ be collinear points.
Let $P$ not lie between $A$ and $B$.
Then $P$ divides $AB$ externally in the ratio $\size m : \size n$ if and only if:
- $AP : PB = m : n$
and the ratio $m : n$ is negative.
