I don't believe the merge from Gamma Function Extends Factorial needs to be done.

It demonstrates a special case, for a specific purpose, using a specific technique. We can link them together with some appropriate words, but defly keep them as distinct pages. --prime mover 16:12, 27 March 2011 (CDT)

Yeah I agree, I panicked as the statement also appears in the definition of $\Gamma$, thought we were in danger of having it three times over. --Linus44 16:46, 27 March 2011 (CDT)
Hey, 3000th proof!
Yep I deliberately held off my tedious and interminable fiddling around in the viscera of abstract algebra to let someone get a landmark proof in with something more significant and accessible. --prime mover 16:53, 27 March 2011 (CDT)

Handwavery

I'm not sure that omitting the details of fiddly algebra classes as handwaving, as such. After all, algebra is a mechanical process which just needs to be churned through. Handwaving, at least in my mind, is used if there is a crucial conceptual link without which the proof can not be made sense of. Template:Finish makes more sense here, as it is clear what needs to be done. --prime mover 19:37, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Agreed; but for me, having built up lots of experience in these matters, the 'calculations', 'tedious algebra' and the like are goldmines for hiding (minor) intricacies. This has been a practice I have employed with lots of success during my studies (as an exponent of my inherent laziness). In that light, it was a reflex to call it handwavery, but the finish template is more appropriate. --Lord_Farin 20:51, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
